Manziel, Alabama headline the SEC’s ESPY nominees


How many ESPYS will SEC football take home in July? The awards show airs July 19th at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Five nominees from the SEC will be featured after a spectacular 2012 season.

Joe Adams’ nasty punt return was nominated last season.

Here are the 2013 nominees:

Best Breakthrough Athlete: Johnny Manziel

Other nominees: Colin Kaepernick (49ers), Yasiel Puig (Dodgers), Mike Trout (Angels) and Russell Wilson (Seahawks)

Best Male College Athlete: Johnny Manziel

Other nominees: Trey Burke (Michigan), Kyle Dake (Cornell wrestling) and Drew LeBlanc (St. Cloud State Hockey)

Best Team: Alabama Crimson Tide

Other nominees: US Women’s Gymnastics, San Francisco Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Blackhawks, Miami Heat and Oklahoma Softball

Best Upset: Texas A&M over Alabama

Other nominees: Florida Gulf Coast over Georgetown (basketball), Louisville women over Baylor (basketball) and Juan Manuel Marquez over Manny Pacquiao (boxing)

Best Play: Jadeveon Clowney’s Hit
