SDS has looked at attendance this season, and while it’s down everywhere in college football, the SEC continues to be up.

The SEC averaged 75,444 fans per game last year, and that number is up to 76,098 fans per game this year through eight weeks.

Five teams have averaged maximum capacity, with Texas A&M, South Carolina, MSU and Ole Miss over 100 percent. One can only expect Missouri’s SEC-low 89 percent capacity will increase with a huge game against South Carolina Saturday night.

  • Missouri’s “official” capacity is adjusted to only 67,114 this year due to construction. However, even that figure is erroneous. Mizzou includes 5-6k of general admission tickets in that official capacity. Those GA “seats” aren’t seats at all. It’s the steep (often wet or frozen) grass on the hill in the north end zone and (even worse) the giant white rocks that form the rock M.

    • exactly right, Missouri is selling out every available seat…. and people are overflowing onto the grass M zone. I’ve been at all home games and was one of the 10,000 who traveled to Vanderbilt.

  • There is no reason for you to know this as we are the new kids on the block, but ThePalms is right.

Our official seating capacity is 62,023 right now. Even with the standing room only tickets, our “total capacity” is 67,114 due to construction. (kind of like how A&M, UCS, Ol Miss, etc are “above capacity”)

That means the numbers should be 98.518 % (61,104 / 63,023) of all seating capacity. Even using the correct under construction, but with the standing room only tickets the number is 91.04 % (61,104 / 67,114).

  • Is there a way to track tickets bought by home versus away team? That would be interesting to track. I am surprised that Mississippi State is actually selling out so well considering the season also. Props to them (no sarcasm)

  • They should count how many people leave the stadium at halftime as a way of seeing what fan bases stay the whole game.
