SEC’s most returning tacklers

The SEC prides itself on tough, physical and punishing defenses. Earlier this spring, we looked at the SEC’s top returning tacklers.

And much like the top returning tackler, Tennessee returns the highest percentage of total tackles for 2013 with 80.3 percent. AJ Johnson headlines the Vols’ defense after leading the SEC with 138 tackles last season. Ole Miss, who returns eight starters on defense, is second with 78.9 percent returning.

The three SEC East powers return the least amount of tacklers. Georgia is last in the SEC and the country with only 34% of the tackles returning for 2013. Am I crazy for thinking Georgia is the favorite heading into this fall?

Here’s how the SEC stacks up, via Phil Steele:

  • Tennessee 80.3% (#20 in CFB)
  • Ole Miss 78.9% (#21)
  • Kentucky 78.3% (#24)
  • Auburn 77.9% (#26)
  • Vanderbilt 70.5% (#45)
  • Alabama 70.5% (#46)
  • Mississippi State 64.7% (#66)
  • Missouri 58.6% (#87)
  • Arkansas 58.2% (#88)
  • Texas A&M 52.9% (#97)
  • LSU 50.4% (#101)
  • Florida 47.3% (#107)
  • South Carolina 41.8% (#116)
  • Georgia 34% (#126)
