10 recruits to keep an eye on with one week until National Signing Day

We’re only a week away from the annual madness that is National Signing Day, and here are 10 recruits for the SEC to keep an eye on down the stretch:

1. Robert Nkemdiche, DE
Teams: Ole Miss, LSU and Florida
Buzz: The top prospect in the country is expected to choose Ole Miss, but could he spurn the Rebels and his brother for either LSU or Florida? It’s not happening. This one is all Ole Miss.

2. Chris Jones, DE
Teams: Ole Miss and Miss State
Buzz: Mississippi State loved Jones when he wasn’t a star, and now that he’s a five-star player, will he stay loyal to MSU or spurn them for the in-state rival? I think he sticks with Mississippi State.

3. Laremy Tunsil, OL
Teams: Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss
Buzz: Georgia has long-since thought to be the favorite, but his Ole Miss visit has everyone asking questions. The three SEC powers will go head-to-head for Tunsil on signing day. I give the slight edge to the favorite Georgia.

4. Montravius Adams, DT
Teams: Auburn, Georgia, Clemson and Florida
Buzz: Most figure it’s down to Georgia and Clemson, but could Auburn or Florida sneak in the back door? That three letter word “SEC” keeps coming up. He won’t play in the ACC, will he?

5. Reuben Foster, LB
Teams: Georgia, Alabama and Auburn
Buzz: Foster is known as the guy with the Auburn tattoo who decommitted, and he’ll decide on signing day. I still think it’s Auburn, and he won’t have to cover up that tattoo. All kidding aside, the Tigers should land Foster, because he currently lives in Auburn.

6. Alex Collins, RB
Teams: Arkansas, Florida and Miami
Buzz: Let’s face it – Florida is just a hat on the table here. The real business is between Arkansas and Miami. Was the Arkansas visit great enough to sway him away from home? It’s familiarity with coaches (Arkansas) vs. staying home (Miami).

7. Tonny Conner, DB
Teams: Alabama and Ole Miss
Buzz: Ole Miss has all but locked up Conner, and he combined with Nkemdiche will give Ole Miss a huge class for 2013. Alabama is just a hat on the table here.

8. Vonn Bell, DB
Teams: Alabama, Ohio State and Tennessee
Buzz: Alabama is the early leader heading into the home stretch, and he’s Nick Saban’s most important recruit left on the board – although Tennessee and Ohio State are certainly making it interesting. You have to figure Alabama gets it done here.

9. MacKensie Alexander, CB
Teams: Auburn, Clemson and Miss State
Buzz: Alexander has kept his information quiet for most of his recruitment, but it looks like the top two teams are Auburn and Clemson, with MSU having an outside shot at landing him. I’m going with Auburn here.

10. Alvin Kamara, RB
Teams: Alabama and Georgia
Buzz: Kamara has been torn between Bama and Georgia all recruiting year, and it’s almost time for him to make a decision. He loves both schools and coaches, but I would give the upper hand to Georgia based solely off playing time. He would be the third back for Mark Richt and likely No. 7 on Bama’s depth chart. Although you can never count out Alabama, as Nick Saban can close the deal better than anyone.

  • I really don’t like seeing Georgia going head-to-head with Bama for two must-have recruits in Tunsil and Kamara and having to compete with our old recruiting coord/position coach for Adams. Richt really needs to land all three, in my opinion, for this to be a good recruiting class. Our DL killed us last year and we only have two horses in stable. We also always seem to under-recruit the OL. But, as you say John — Saban seems to be able to close any deal that he truly wants to and I know that Adams really like Garner.

  • With UGa offering a prior Vandy commit RB I think they know Kamara isn’t headed to Athens.

Tunsil and Adams would be huge gets but I forsee Tunsil to Ole Miss and and Adams to Clemson.

Foster lives in Auburn, Rodney Garner now at Auburn walking around after the All-Star game holding Foster’s MVP trophy AND his Mother already working for Auburn makes that choice a slam dunk.
