We’re just seven weeks from the kick off of college football as we know it. Can you believe it? You better get your mind right.
Last month, 5Dimes released the over/under for the SEC, and let’s speculate on the SEC West, shall we?
Looking into the crystal ball, go!
Buzz: The only way Bama makes the over is by running the table, and that’s just so tough for any team in the SEC. As good as this team was last season, they had some close calls in addition to the Texas A&M loss. The gap between Bama and the rest of league is not as big as everyone lets on, with the Tide absorbing everyone’s best blow. Sure, they can go undefeated, but the safe bet here is to take the under.
Buzz: LSU has plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, but simply reloading is so tough to do. I think LSU has some big years ahead of them, but I’m taking the under this year. Losing five of their front seven and two proven players in the secondary screams nine wins, not to mention their nasty schedule. But if the offense can spark under Cam Cameron, they could win the SEC. What an interesting year for the Tigers.
Texas A&M: 9.5
Buzz: The schedule screams at least 10 wins. Outside of LSU and Bama, the Aggies should take care of business. The Ole Miss game could get interesting, but this offense is just too good to not be able to outscore teams with non-elite defenses.
Ole Miss: 8.5
Buzz: I’m feeling a little risky here, and I know I’ve been pumping this team since January. I love the offense and love where the program is headed. The Rebels are only a year away from being one of the West favorites.
Buzz: Spread offenses typically make a splash for first-year head coaches, and one thing Auburn doesn’t lack is talent. With a better overall defense and quarterback play, this team is on its way to winning seven or even eight games. Don’t get caught saying, “I never saw it coming.”
Buzz: The job ahead of Bret Bielema is somewhat daunting, but I think he’s the right guy for the future. Give him a couple years, and don’t judge him solely on 2013 either. Coupled with a nasty schedule, there are just too many personnel questions on offense for me to see six wins, regardless of how much the defense improves.
Mississippi State: 5.5
Buzz: I love Dan Mullen, Tyler Russell, LaDarius Perkins and a slew of emerging stars on defense, but the program is lethargic to me. I’m not a hater, but I see the momentum the other programs are creating and don’t see any of that within MSU. Now, that could certainly turn around immediately, but the schedule is brutal and doesn’t set up well for a strong finish. Could Mullen miss on a bowl game after taking them to three straight?
