When South Carolina takes on Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day, they will be without their second-leading receiver. Damiere Byrd suffered a knee injury at practice this week, and the school reported Friday that he would have arthroscopic surgery within the next few days.
Byrd caught 33 passes for 575 yards on the year, averaging 17.4 yards per catch. He also added 4 TDs as Connor Shaw’s second most targeted receiver, behind Bruce Ellington.
Steve Fink, the school’s athletic spokesman, said they are hopeful Byrd will be back in time for spring practice.
