Kentucky lineman arrested on weapons charge

UK freshman offensive lineman TJ Jones was arrested over winter break in his hometown of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on a weapons charge. New head coach Mark Stoops now has his first disciplinary issue to deal with as the new head man for the Cats.

Jones, who redshirted this past season, is being investigated for allegedly bringing a handgun onto school property on December 18th.

UK released a statement about the incident and about inquiries to Coach Stoops.

“Coach Stoops is out of town on business. He will address the issue when he returns to Lexington and has the opportunity to meet with the player and gather relevant information,” UK athletic spokesman Tony Neely said.

Here’s the report from about the incident:

The report itself is vague, stating that “a possible incident that occurred in the locker room of the incident location.”

The report, filed three days after the alleged crime, indicates that the weapons violation occurred at Myrtle Beach High School and that the investigation is open.

Jones’ arrest was first reported Monday by WMBF, a television station in Myrtle Beach.

Details are still limited. Jones is innocent until proven guilty through the US judicial system.
