One of the top prospects in the country from Rossville, Georgia, in five-star safety Vonn Bell shunned Alabama and Tennessee today, and he committed to Ohio State and Urban Meyer.
Since leaving the SEC, the national sentiment surrounding Ohio State and Meyer is that the Buckeyes will become the first non-SEC team to win a national championship.
And judging by Bell’s quotes today, Meyer has indeed sold southern prospects on being that one team up north who can ultimately unseat the SEC.
“Urban Meyer is on a mission right now for a national championship,” Bell said.
“They went undefeated this year and he didn’t even recruit. Everyone says the SEC is where I need to go, but he’s going to bring the SEC up there.”
“We all on a mission. We want to do something special,” Bell said during his announcement.
“We’re gong to try to beat ‘Bama at national championships and try to get that crystal ball. We’re going to complete that mission.”
Nobody doubts Ohio State will dominate the Big Ten because of such a weak conference schedule. Of course they will. But even Urban Meyer will tell you the chasm that exists between his Buckeyes and Alabama. However, getting players like Bell is a great place to start.
As evidenced by where things look like they are headed, we’ll have a Nick Saban vs. Urban Meyer national championship bout coming up soon.
Let’s just hope for the love of college football that Meyer doesn’t retire and un-retire again after the game.
