Former touted Ole Miss offensive lineman Austin Golson has enrolled at Auburn.
Golson will compete for a starting job in 2015, and he has enrolled in summer classes, confirmed by Gus Malzahn this week. He’ll have to sit out the 2014 season unless he receives a waiver from the NCAA.
“He’s walking on and will have an opportunity just like anybody else would,” Malzahn said.
Hugh Freeze released Golson without any stipulations on where he could transfer because of Golson’s situation. He was the projected starter at right tackle for the Rebels, after playing in 12 games at right guard in 2013, but he transferred to Auburn to be closer to his sick grandparents.
On a different note, reserve offensive lineman Shane Callahan has transferred from Auburn. He played in just two games last season at tackle, and he plans to transfer back to Colorado where he’s from.
Callahan was rated as the country’s No. 22 offensive tackle and was a top-four player from the state of Colorado in 2012.
