Charlie Strong calls Texas A&M a gadget program

Charlie Strong just finished his first National Signing Day as the Texas head coach, and he already finished behind Texas A&M. Yeah, I know it was expected, because of the short amount of time he had to recruit.

During Strong’s press conference today, he was asked about Texas A&M and Kevin Sumlin’s use of the Swagcopter, which Sumlin uses on recruiting trips and proudly boasts he’s undefeated in commitments with it. Strong said the Horns aren’t going to be a gadget program.

“The university speaks for itself,” said Strong. “We don’t need gadgets. We’re not going to be a gadget program.”

It doesn’t look like Texas and Texas A&M are going to settle anything on the field in the near future, but maybe we’ll see some fireworks on the recruiting trail with these two head coaching grappling for recruiting superiority in the fertile state of Texas.

The Aggies finished 5th overall this year, while Texas finished 17th. Last year, the Aggies finished 9th overall, while Texas finished 17th. The Aggies have put back-to-back top 10 classes together and are building a serious national contender for the future.
