Bret Bielema’s job just got tougher.
Defensive coordinator Chris Ash bolted for Ohio State to become the Buckeyes’ co-defensive coordinator. Ash came to Arkansas with Bret Bielema from Wisconsin, and he’s going back to the Big Ten, according to Sports Illustrated.
Bielema just replaced defensive line coach Charlie Partridge this offsesaon, and now he has to replace his defensive coordinator.

This is a big hit, not only for on-field defensive purposes, but Ash has ties to Texas and is a great recruiter. And we’re only a little over three weeks until National Signing Day.
The smoothest transition would be to promote linebackers coach Randy Shannon to defensive coordinator. We’ll see if it happens.
