Dish picks up SEC Network, set to start a week earlier than expected


The SEC Network has its first major distribution deal.

Dish Network and Walt Disney agreed to a long-term planning agreement yesterday, which includes the SEC Network set to begin in August.

In addition to the SEC Network, the deal adds the Longhorn Network and ESPN3, among others, and it’s the largest distribution deal yet for the new SEC Network. Dish has a reported 14.1 million customers, and it will also launch ESPNEWS, ESPNU, Disney Channel and ABC Family in high definition. ESPN Classic will become a video on-demand.

The SEC Network will now begin August 14, instead of the previous announced date of August 21.
