Florida reportedly favorite to land impact tight end transfer

NCAA Football: Virginia at Pittsburgh

College football doesn’t have a free agency, but Robbie Andreu from the Gainesville Sun tweeted Florida is the favorite in the sweepstakes for Virginia tight end transfer Jake McGee.

McGee led the Cavaliers in receptions last season with 43 for 395 yards and two touchdowns, pushing his career totals to 71 catches for 769 yards and seven touchdowns. His 2013 numbers may not seem great, but UVA had only nine passing touchdowns all year.

The best thing going for Florida is that McGee is graduating in two weeks, and he’d be able to play immediately. The Gators received virtually no production from the position last year, one year removed from do-it-all Jordan Reed.

McGee would likely instantly become the Gators’ top tight end, and he’d be a nice piece to the Gators’ new-look offense. He was a Mackey Award watch lister in 2013.
