Former Tennessee safety Janzen Jackson, once one of the country’s most elite defensive backs, has been charged with the murder of his mother’s boyfriend. Jackson has been in jail since September on $1 million bond.
The Los Angeles Register had the report, and his mother testified that he was having mental problems and hearing voices. After Jackson was cut by the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, Jackson returned home to live with his mother, where she lived with her boyfriend Frank Herrera.
Jackson is accused of strangling Herrera and leaving his body in the car, covered by a blanket.
Jackson was dismissed in 2011 by Tennessee, and he finished his college career at McNeese State. He spent some time with the New York Giants and the Argonauts.
