Newly resigned Florida WR coach Joker Phillips reportedly photographed with recruit during dead period

NCAA Football: Tennessee at Florida

Former Florida wide receiver coach and recruiting coordinator Joker Phillips abruptly resigned yesterday. Now, we may know why.

Yahoo! reported the NCAA received a photo of Phillips at a restaurant with a recruit during the dead period. Yahoo! reported two sources said that Phillips violated the “bump rule”, where he inadvertently bumps into a prospect. That’s considered a secondary violation. However, a prearranged or premeditated meeting is a major violation, in which a coach would be purposely violating the NCAA dead period.

The photo was reportedly turned over to the NCAA by an individual with ties to the Miami Hurricanes athletics program. Florida promoted Chris Leak to wide receivers coach yesterday. It’s unknown who will step into Phillips’ role as recruiting coordinator.

Isn’t this just what Will Muschamp needed?
