SEC Football News on Saturday Down South

Mississippi State OC leaving for Texas

NEW: Follow on facebook -

Mississippi State’s OC Les Koenning has accepted a job with Texas to become Charlie Strong’s new WR coach, according to multiple reports.

For Mississippi State fans, it’s bittersweet news. The play calling has been criticized the last few years, but losing Koenning right before National Signing Day brings up an interesting scenario for Dan Mullen. Will Mullen call the plays in 2014, or will he hire a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator to do it for him?

Either way, losing Koenning isn’t devastating for the Bulldogs with an offensive-minded head coach, as he returns to his alma mater, where he played WR from 1977-80.

  1. Thank God and Greyhound he’s gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Thank you jesus!

  3. No problem, Dan was calling the plays during the end of the season anyway. Now that we have his style of QB, DAK Prescott, I feel like he will continue to do so, and why wouldn’t he. He is a master at play calling. He should just hire a special teams coach, and call it a day. All of our defense is returning, and with our offense in place, 2014 looks really bright in STARKVEGAS! I do thank Les for his contributions at STATE and wish him well at TEXAS. #hailstate
