The College Football Playoff era will be ushered in soon enough starting in 2014, and with it another mutually exclusive poll will be introduced.
There’s usually a negative response to polls; I wish there were more of them, because it gives everyone something to talk about and to debate. Games are outstanding, but the debate and results are just as fun.
The Grantland Rice Super 16 is the new poll. It’s a joint panel of 36 voters, with 26 coming from members of the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) distributed across the organization’s six regions and the remaining 10 coming from National Football Foundation (NFF), consisting of Hall of Fame players, coaches and administrators from various regions.

The panel will be announced this summer prior to media days, and their individual weekly polls will be made public. This has no bearing on the College Football Playoff.
