Old Dominion turned down $1.3 million to play Alabama in 2015

We want Bama’ isn’t what Old Dominion University said.

ESPN officials approached the university and said they’d make an easy $1.3 million to get destroyed by Alabama in Bryant-Denny Stadium in 2015. ODU said no thanks, according to the Virginian Pilot.

“We’ve already got 12 games,” ODU AD Wood Selig said. “I’d certainly touch base with (head coach) Bobby Wilderon this, but I don’t think playing a game against Alabama would be an advisable move given the infancy of our program.”

You have to wonder – the program is in its infancy, but ODU would get national exposure playing a national brand, along with a fat check. Although it would be a brutal game, it’s the way programs grow with the cash for making the trip.

The Tide have two non-conference games left to fill on the 2015 schedule, but one of them won’t be ODU.
