13 SEC underclassmen have now declared for the NFL Draft

Two SEC players declared for the NFL Draft over the weekend in Missouri DE Kony Ealy and LSU DT Ego Ferguson. LSU OL Trai Turner has reportedly signed with an agent, but nothing is official yet. So, Turner cannot be counted at this time.

Michael Sam from Mizzou is obviously a great player, as he won SEC Defensive Player of the Year, but Ealy has much more upside as a defensive end. Ealy racked up six sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss against SEC competition this year.

Ferguson may not have put up the numbers we all thought he would, but he has much upside at the next level. He’s very athletic and active in the front four.

Update: Ole Miss WR Donte Moncrief also declared, and he’ll be a monster at the NFL Combine. LSU WR tandem Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry have also declared. That brings us to 15.

Here is the 15 who have made it official, and there will be more in the coming days:

  • Chris Boyd, WR, Vanderbilt (suspended for the 2013 season)

  • Gotta add Donte Moncrief to this list.

  • Ealy (not Ealey) will be a first rounder after he blows up at the combine. You heard it here. We are all wondering what Henry Josey will decide. Hope he comes back to the Zou for another 1000+ yard season (he could be the first Mizzou Tiger RB to ever have 3×1000+ yard seasons which would be amazing after that knee injury)

  • even if Josey comes back who outside of Missouri would consider him a top running back. I know we love him and the way he runs is just a thing of beauty but because he has to share the ball so much and the SEC fans love power runners I don’t think Henry gets the appreciation he deserves. I know Georgia fans were shocked when I said preseason that Henry would out perform Todd

  • So far, no Bama underclassmen on this list. I know some are considering but I think it speaks well for the program that they’re not bailing on school and the team…. Roll Tide !!
