SEC West: Burning questions exiting spring practice

Spring football didn’t answer all questions for SEC West teams. In fact, several questions loom for every team entering 2014.

RELATED: SEC East burning questions

Here are the three burning questions for every SEC West team exiting spring practice:

Alabama Crimson Tide

  • Is Jacob Coker the SEC’s most important player?
  • Will the Tide finally have the pass rush they want this year?
  • Will Derrick Henry or TJ Yeldon be the better running back this season?

Arkansas Razorbacks

  • Which receiver will step up and become the go-to player?
  • How long will it take Bret Bielema to rebuild Arkansas?
  • How many newcomers will make an impact this season?

Auburn Tigers

  • Is Nick Marshall and Jeremy Johnson the SEC’s best QB tandem?
  • Will WR D’haquille ‘Duke’ Williams become the SEC’s newcomer of the year?
  • Is Auburn the SEC favorite to open 2014?

LSU Tigers

  • How much will LSU have to rely on its freshmen class?
  • Could the Tigers be in for an eight-win ‘rebuilding’ year?
  • Is DE Danielle Hunter ready for a breakout season?

Mississippi State Bulldogs

  • Should Dak Prescott be getting more or less Heisman love?
  • Does MSU have the SEC’s most favorable schedule?
  • When has there been this kind of anticipation for a season in Starkville?

Ole Miss Rebels

  • Is there more optimism in Oxford or Starkville?
  • Will this be Bo Wallace’s best season yet, and is Ole Miss’ QB situation the best in the SEC?
  • Does Ole Miss have the SEC’s best young talent?

Texas A&M Aggies

  • What does it say about Kevin Sumlin that he’ll have three first-round NFL Draft picks this month?
  • How concerning are the offseason arrests?
  • How much did Texas A&M’s defense improve this offseason?

  • Coming from an Ole Miss fans view, there is probably more optimism coming from Starkville, because everyone already expects Ole Miss to be really good this year and no one really knows how good MSU will be.

As for as Bo Wallace, YES!!! He has the best numbers of any SEC QB and has way more experience than any other SEC QB. Plus he will finally be healthy.

I wouldn’t say that Ole Miss has the best young talent out right, but there is not question that Ole Miss has some serious young talent with big names such as Nkemdiche, Treadwell, Tunsil, and Conner. All four will be first rounders.

    • This is the dumbest thing I’ve heard come out of an Olé Piss fan. We have experience coming back. You have the thug brothers and Treadwell. Oh yea Bum Wallace is in the heisman running for sure. He threw what four picks against us. Oh and all those guys are coming back except for one. Get out of here with your ignorance. You guys will be lucky to go over .500 this season.

  • How many times must we go over this???? With Bo Wallece at the helm Ole Miss will be a 7 win team at best….period!

  • The West could have a losing record against the East this year. AU will be great again but it’s difficult to see them repeating as Div. Champ because of the way they backed into it last year. They had one great game and that was against Missouri in the big one, but even then they were behind numerous times in the contest. Does anyone think AL will suddenly shake the mojo anti-formula. LSU is down and will be further down, still among the top 15 teams in the nation for sure but that could be 6-7th in the SEC. aTm will be totally different without Manziel, their running game is going to have to be a lot better in a league that stuffs great running games. Miss State will be the new contender in the West. I just can’t see ARK or OM being ranked in the nation’s top 15 next year, no insult at all, they will still have very good teams.

  • No…Coker will not be that important
Derrik Henry should take the starting spot
I don’ think Auburn is the favorite in the west…not sure who is though.
I like Prescott…MSU may win more games than LSU
If Bo Wallace is the best QB in the SEC then I’m gonna go try to walk on somewhere.
It says the same thing about Sumlin as it said in Houston when his system turned a 2 star QB into the NCAA career passing leader. They score points…it’s fun to watch. They’re hard to prepare for. Keep in mind aTm lost to every ranked opponent last season though so perhaps the Defenses are coming around?
