Former Georgia safety Tray Matthews officially arrives at Auburn

NCAA Football: Louisiana State at Georgia

It’s official. Dismissed Georgia safety Tray Matthews is officially an Auburn Tiger.

Matthews announced his intentions to transfer to Auburn on June 14th. He gets his second chance with the Tigers, and he’ll miss the 2014 season due to the transfer rule.

Matthews was dismissed by Mark Richt after a classroom incident earlier this month, and he took just 11 days to commit to Auburn, who was originally one of two finalists — the other being Georgia — for the former five-star prospect. Matthews started six games last year and made 36 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

  • That Auburn sure can recruit!

  • Matthews is a great athlete. Too bad he wasn’t mature enough to stay around and make a positive impact for the Dawgs.

Best of luck Tray … Enjoy your new home at The Barn. On many levels it seems like the best place for you to be right now.

  • I started my career at UGA before moving to Auburn. Of course, I graduated first. Good luck, Tray! I’ll be your prof wearing the “G.”
