Missouri QB Trent Hosick will transfer

Missouri redshirt freshman quarterback Trent Hosick has decided to transfer, per the university.

Hosick was battling with backups Corbin Berkstresser and Eddie Printz for the No. 2 job. The former three-star dual-threat quarterback is likely still sitting fourth on the depth chart, as indicated on the pre-spring depth chart, and he made the biggest play in Saturday’s spring game when he connected with receiver Eric Laurent for a 93-yard touchdown pass.

Hosick’s transfer isn’t that surprising, as Missouri has an absolute logjam of signal callers, and we haven’t even discussed early enrollee Marvin Zanders, who broke off an 80-yard run Saturday.

Maty Mauk is the undisputed starter, but beyond Mauk, the future also looks bright for the Tigers.

  • It depends on where he will be transferring to but that’s probably not a smart move. I don’t see Berkstresser staying in 2nd place which moves Hosick into a virtual tie for 2nd after Saturdays game. The question is can he stay in 2nd when Zanders is no longer a red-shirt. And can he stay on top of Drew Lock. Lock has a throwing motion to improve and he could be a year or two improving it. Still he could get a job where he could start for 2 years and pile up uncontested statistics. Maybe this could lead to a draft pick. He is an incredible athlete and I think only a small part of his talent is at the quarterback position. Trent are you sure you don’t want to transfer to a new position and read the game from a different job description?

    • Sounds like he’s dead set on playing QB, thus the transfer. Think Eddie Printz is the heir apparent to Maty Mauk.

      • That pass he threw to Laurent Sat. tends to say he’s right to hold out for that job, but how many NCAA quarterbacks are bad enough hombres to win a state heavyweight wrestling championship? There is a deep well of athletic talent in this young man.

  • they were talking about using him as a returner. I really wanted to see that.

    • Wrestlers learn about leverage in full contact duals. Hosick is a game reader. He was born to see the game from the middle of the squad. He is linebacker for the same reason he is a quarterback.
