TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama football didn’t move up in either poll, but narrowed the gap with the teams ahead of it on Sunday.

The Crimson Tide remained second in the Amway coaches’ poll, and No. 3 in the Associated Press poll.

After previously having just one first-place vote in both poll, Alabama had 11 in the coaches’ poll and six in the AP poll.

Florida State had 34 first-place votes in the AP poll, and 1,439 points. It had 36 first-place votes and 1,494 total points compared to 1,466 points for the Crimson Tide in the coaches’ poll.

Last week the Seminoles had 37 and 50 first-place votes, respectively.

The AP had Oregon second with 1,400 points, ahead of Alabama’s 1,377, Oklahoma (1,343) and Auburn.

With 12 first-place votes Oklahoma jumped over Oregon into third (1,425 to 1,403), while Auburn remained fifth in the coaches’ poll.

Every team in the SEC West except Arkansas was ranked in the top 18 in both polls, and the Razorbacks received votes.

Florida State needed overtime to finally defeat visiting No. 22 Clemson, 23-17, and Oregon outlasted Washington State, 38-31. Oklahoma beat West Virginia 45-33, which Alabama defeated in their neutral-site opener, 33-23.

Alabama (4-0), which is coming off a 42-21 victory over Florida, is off this week. It visits Ole Miss on Oct. 4. The Rebels were 10th in the AP poll and and No. 11 in the coaches poll.

Alabama has been No. 1 at some point of the season during the past six years, dating back to 2008. It’s the second longest streak during the era of the AP poll dating back to 1936, just one shy of Miami’s seven (1986-92).
