Miller Forristall, a fast-rising 6-foot-5 former quarterback, has committed to the University of Alabama.

Forristall, who played quarterback until early last fall, picked the Tide ahead of the home-state Georgia Bulldogs. Michigan recently offered the 220-pound tight end, and he gave Mississippi State some attention during the recruiting process as well.

Rated as a three-star player by the 247Sports composite rankings, the Cartersville, Ga., senior-to-be represents Alabama’s 15th commitment of the 2016 class. The Tide have risen quickly in the recruiting rankings the last two weeks and now rank No. 5 in the country, behind only LSU in the SEC.

Just three of Alabama’s current commitments are from the Yellowhammer State. Louisiana, California, Georgia, New York, Texas, Virginia, Mississippi, Missouri and Florida all are represented in the class.

The Tide has plenty of tight ends on the current roster, but most of them are seniors, walk-ons or both. If O.J. Howard decides to leave for the NFL after his third season this fall, Alabama will have a huge need at tight end ahead of the 2016 season.

Alabama also holds a commitment from 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end Brendan Scales of Ballwin, Mo.
