Mac Jones, a four-star quarterback from Jacksonville, Fl., has been committed to Alabama since the summertime and anticipates no change in that regard prior to National Signing Day on Feb. 1.

On Friday, he received his first in-person visit from new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, and had nothing but positive reviews about the Crimson Tide’s decorated play-caller.

Despite having a strong relationship with former OC Lane Kiffin, which he admitted he knew would likely take a head coaching gig this offseason, anyway, Jones feels like he can build the same connection with Sarkisian.

“I really enjoyed talking to him,” Jones told AL.com. “He seems really laid back. We can relate by talking football, but we didn’t really talk that much football. We really just got to know each other. I told him we can talk football on my official visit. We got to hang out and get to know each other. It almost seemed like I wasn’t talking to a coach. It was pretty cool to get to know him like that.

“Coach Kiffin was an easy person to get along with and Coach Sark is an easy person to get along with,” Jones added. “It’s not like you’re going from an extreme to something else. I’m really excited to get to know him more and talk some football this weekend.”

Jones, the No. 14 pro-style quarterback from the 2017 recruiting class (per 247Sports Composite), says he plans on adding weight this offseason — his profile lists him at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds — and hopes to compete right away, but would understand if he had to redshirt to “do whatever is best for the team.”

He’d join the roster as the third scholarship QB, joining rising sophomore Jalen Hurts and incoming five-star freshman Tua Tagovailoa, who enrolled earlier this month.

Jones will host Alabama coach Nick Saban on Wednesday before making his official visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend.
