Alabama QB David Cornwell has more in common with Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford than both being from the state of Oklahoma.

Quarterbacks guru Terry Shea noted multiple similarities between the two signal-callers when speaking to AL.com’s John Talty.

“He’s got the same accuracy as Sam Bradford,” Shea said of Cornwell. “I thought Sam Bradford threw a very catchable ball coming out of Oklahoma. David throws a very catchable ball and has a tight spiral probably a bit tighter than Sam Bradford. They are very similar in a lot of ways.”

Bradford was a three-year starter for the Sooners, beginning with his redshirt freshman season in 2007. In ’08, he threw for 4,721 yards and 50 touchdowns leading Oklahoma to a BCS Championship Game berth and picking up the Heisman Trophy along the way. The St. Louis Rams selected Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Cornwell, on the other hand, has yet to play in a game for Alabama. The redshirt sophomore, however, is thought by many to be a legitimate contender for the starting job this fall.

Shea also compared Cornwell to former Kansas State QB Collin Klein. The name doesn’t get headlines like Bradford, but it’s another good sign for the Crimson Tide quarterback.

“(Collin’s) approach to quarterback skill development is very similar to David’s,” Shea said. “Both young men are very genuine, very coachable. You can’t buy that; you can’t manufacture that. David is as coachable as they come and is willing to do everything and anything. He’s willing to repeat things just so he gets things on the field, and that’s the way Collin Klein was headed into his senior season at Kansas State.”

The good news for offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is that all of his quarterbacks appear to be working hard to get an edge heading into fall camp. It was recently reported that Cooper Bateman will take part in Tom Brady’s TB12 program and the Manning Passing Academy. Fellow Tide QB Blake Barnett has also been training this offseason with QB guru George Whitfield.
