After a strong showing in the preseason for the Washington Redskins, former Alabama WR Cam Sims was injured on the first play of his regular-season career.

He was never able to return to the field, and that weighed heavily on him as the year wore on.

Recently, Sims opened up about just how hard it was for him not to be out on the field with his teammates. Per a story on Redskins.com, Sims said he’d cry every Sunday when he wasn’t able to suit up:

“Every Sunday I would cry because I wasn’t out there playing,” said Sims, who estimates he watched three or four games throughout the year. “I just had to get up out of that. After I stopped crying, I was just like, ‘Man, let’s go. I can’t do that. Let’s go. Let’s go do something. Let’s go work.'”

Sims is eager to make sure that doesn’t happen again in 2019. In fact, he said, he plans on showing that what he did in the preseason last year was what he can do in the regular season:

“To pick up where I left off,” Sims said about his expectations for this season. “Just to keep going and going. I know I had a great year last year before I got hurt, so I just want to pick up and do better than I did last year.”

Using 2018 as motivation, he may be able to do just that this fall.
