National Signing Day is on Feb. 4 and the SEC is primed to bring in another impressive haul of top recruits in the 2015 recruiting class.

In the next 25 days, Saturday Down South counts down the top 25 recruits either committed to the SEC or strongly considering SEC schools.

No. 8 Blake Barnett

Position: Quarterback
247Sports ranking: No. 21 overall; No. 5 overall in California
Committed: Already enrolled at Alabama

The skinny: Barnett left California to compete for the Alabama starting job this year. He has a strong arm, but he’s very polished in the pocket as a passer, meaning his footwork is very good. Give Lane Kiffin a season or two, and he’ll make Barnett into a very good passer. Barnett’s listed at 6-5, 200 pounds, and he’s your prototypical pocket passer. He has all the upside everyone loves to become an elite quarterback. Now, does he have the intangibles? We’ll find out at Alabama.

Freshman projection: The jump from high school to college for any quarterback is tough, but with Barnett being an early enrollee, he’ll get a look at the starting job this fall having already gone through spring practice. Barnett’s biggest competitor will be returner Jacob Coker, who Alabama is already really excited about. The best thing for Barnett will be getting a redshirt his freshman season.
