In 2015, former Alabama running back Derrick Henry led the NCAA with 2,219 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns while serving as the offense’s main point of interest throughout a season that finished with a 14-1 record, a national championship, and a Heisman Trophy award.

So it probably came to a slight surprise when he found out that the Tennessee Titans were going to take him with their second round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. They do have the league’s top rusher from the 2014 season already, after all.

Tennessee acquired DeMarco Murray this offseason after serving a one-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. Two seasons ago, while with the Dallas Cowboys, Murray led the NFL with 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns and earned Offensive Player of the Year. The Titans are hoping they can get similar production from the sixth-year veteran.

Henry, who is currently listed as the team’s No. 2 back, joins Murray in what’s shaping out to be one of the strongest backfields in the entire NFL with other members such as Antonio Andrews, Bishop Sankey, and Dexter McCluster in line to compete for carries, too.

He seems to be OK with that.

“I’m excited for the whole thing,” Henry told TMZ while arriving at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday. “He’s [Murray] a good guy. He’s a great leader. He’s done a great job in the NFL, and he’s hungry, so he’s always willing to help.”

Though Henry led the FBS in both rushing and touchdowns last season, he also led in another category: carries. His 395 attempts (26.3 per game) were 58 more than any other running back in the nation, and he will likely have to adjust to a significantly lower amount of touches as a rookie in 2016.
