It may not be on the same level as former Alabama QB Joe Namath’s Super Bowl guarantee back in 1969, but ex-Crimson Tide OL D.J. Fluker was no less bold when asked about his NFL squad’s 2017 playoff chances.

Playing for the now-Los Angeles Chargers, Fluker said his team, which finished 5-11 this past season, would be playing in the postseason next year, according to TMZ.com:

“I’m looking forward to the playoffs,” Fluker said. “We definitely will be in the playoffs. No doubt. Guaranteed.”

The Chargers have a long way to go to make Fluker’s guarantee come true. In addition to moving to a new city and breaking in a new head coach in 2017, the Chargers also have to deal with a tough AFC West division that features last year’s Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos and two 2016 playoff teams in the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders.

To be fair, it would have been strange if the former first-round draft pick had said he didn’t think his team would make the playoffs, but now that it’s on the record, Fluker needs to do his part to make his prediction come true.
