As of Friday morning, Vegas has Alabama as an 18-point favorite against undefeated Texas A&M for tomorrow’s colossal matchup in Tuscaloosa.

Gene Stallings thinks that’s about right.

“I have a lot of respect for Texas A&M, obviously, but they aren’t as good a football team as Alabama is,” said the former Crimson Tide coach and Aggies player. “Alabama can run the football. They can play defense. They score on special teams. They recover fumbles, return punts, and the game is in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama has 11 non-offensive touchdowns through seven games this season to lead the nation. To put that into perspective, South Carolina has scored nine offensive touchdowns in 2016.

The Tide rank 7th nationally in points allowed with 15.0 per game, but are 6th in yards per play (4.25) and have the country’s best run defense by, surrendering just 2.04 yards per rush attempt. Houston is No. 2 at 2.69.

“Their defense, in my opinion, is second to none,” Stallings said. “They are big, strong, and they pressure the quarterback. One of the things the secondary does is they don’t miss tackles.”

Stallings was also quick to compare Alabama true freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts to former Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel.

“Johnny Manziel was an electric-type quarterback, and I think this young man at Alabama is the same type,” Stallings said. “He can run. He can get out of trouble. He’s an accurate passer. He doesn’t turn the ball over. I think for a true freshman, he’s doing a fabulous job.”

Hurts has accounted for 1,813 total yards and 17 touchdowns through seven games this season, which would put him on pace for over 3,100 yards and 29 touchdowns before a potential SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff run.

During Manziel’s 2012 Heisman-winning campaign, he totaled 5,116 yards and 47 touchdowns in 13 games.
