Alabama RB Josh Jacobs had no idea a tweet would send Crimson Tide fans into a frenzy of speculation. On Dec. 7, Jacobs tweeted, “Just want my family to have a better life than I did.” It sent some of his 38,000 followers (and other Twitter users) into thinking he had just hinted at declaring early for the NFL Draft. That was not the case.

“It’s crazy how people like to spin things, for real,” Jacobs told reporters Friday. “I honestly ain’t really thought about it, and the little bit of time that I did think about it, it kind of stressed me out so I just left it alone.”

There’s no reason he should stress himself out ahead of the Orange Bowl, but it’s a big decision Jacobs will eventually have to make. Veteran draft scout/analyst Luke Easterling opined in November that “Jacobs could be the first running back taken in the 2019 NFL Draft.”

While Jacobs’ tweet referenced his family, he said the decision will be all his.

“Most of the people that talk to my pops, they get mad because he always tells them he’s not going to have nothing to do with the decision,” Jacobs said. “It’s my decision. So, they’re not going to get nothing out of me.”
