Alabama looks to be down another linebacker.

After dismissing VanDarius Cowan and losing Terrell Lewis to an ACL injury in recent weeks, the Crimson Tide are now poised to enter fall camp without the services of Keith Holcombe. Holcombe is scheduled to be a senior but his focus could shift completely to baseball for his final year in Tuscaloosa.

Holcombe was not listed on the official roster released by Alabama’s media guide at SEC Media Days. Saban addressed Holcombe’s status in June during his appearance at his Nick’s Kids Charity Golf Tournament.

“I haven’t talked to him yet, I did talk to him before (the draft), he wanted to continue to try and pursue his baseball career. So, I haven’t talked with him since that,” Saban said regarding Holcombe in June. “I think he can actually come back and play another year of baseball, if he chooses to do that. I will talk to him again, but when we had the last conversation, he was pretty much set on trying to play baseball.”

While noting Holcombe’s loss would affect the depth of the program’s linebackers, Saban noted he’s never satisfied with the depth at any position on his roster.

“I’m not comfortable with any position our team, relative to the depth we have out there,” Saban answered. “I wish we had more depth. I wish we had more players. I wish more guys could contribute. Regardless of that circumstance, you know, we will try to develop and create whatever we have to do to try to develop depth at any position on our team. If that involves moving players, if that involves trying to enhance the development of younger players, that’s what we’ll do.”

For what it’s worth, Holcombe is listed as a baseball player on the official Alabama team website. He has seen action the last three years for the Crimson Tide football team.
