Alabama running back Kenyan Drake grew up a Georgia fan.

However, the Georgia native eventually chose the Crimson Tide. He was asked Wednesday at SEC Media Days why he signed with Alabama out of high school.

“I think it was because of the fact that it was Alabama and I like to be a winner,” Drake said, per the Macon Telegraph. “Honestly at the end of the day, going to Alabama would put me in the best position to be the person I want to be on and off the field.”

Drake happened to be in the same recruiting cycle as UGA signees Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, and the Bulldogs landed both elite talents that cycle, for reference.

Georgia fans were angered when he first made the comments, but he said he was taken out of context via Twitter. UGA fans thought he was responding to a question of why he chose Alabama over Georgia.

However, Drake is looking forward to playing UGA this season.

“I honestly grew up a Georgia fan,” Drake said at SEC Media Days. “I’m from Georgia and to play back at Sanford Stadium and almost to the day, the anniversary of me being injured. It will really cool to go there and play against the Dawgs between the hedges.”

Not only are both teams looking forward to that game, but the college football world will also be tuned in.

Drake is figured to be one of the most dynamic talents on Alabama’s offense and a focal point of Lane Kiffin’s attack in 2015.
