Sophomore running back Najee Harris suffered a foot injury during Alabama’s scrimmage on Saturday that may knock him out for the rest of fall camp, but coach Nick Saban doesn’t expect him to miss any serious time.

Saban met with the media following Alabama’s practice Thursday to update Harris’s status.

“We have a lot of guys that are nicked up, missing a day’s practice here, a day’s practice there, black jersey for a couple of days,” Saban said. “But the only guy, Najee Harris, who has a cast on his foot, because he had a minor foot injury that our medical staff here felt like totally staying off of it for a week would be very, very helpful. When he comes out of that, we’ll start rehabbing. He’ll be day-to-day, but this is not a long-term issue that we think is going to be a significant problem for him, even to be ready for the first game.”

Harris is expected to be the Crimson Tide’s second-string running back behind Damien Harris and should be ready for week one, when Alabama faces off against Louisville.

Harris recorded 61 carries for 370 yards and three touchdowns as a true freshman last season, and he is expected to have a larger role in the offense this year.
