Alabama’s fans apparently weren’t the only ones that didn’t care about the Crimson Tide’s NIT appearance.

Despite playing at home in Tuscaloosa, in front of a crowd of around 2,000 or so fans, the NIT’s No. 1 seed at home to Norfolk State last night in overtime 80-79. Following the game, Norfolk’s Steven Whitley described what he and his teammates perceived as a lack of energy from Avery Johnson’s club during the pregame warmups.

“Honestly, we seen warmups. Thought it was going to be sweet, the way they were lagging around and things like that,” Whitley said. “We talked about it in the locker room and we made sure we came out and punched heavy right away.”

Norfolk State did jump out to an early lead in the game before the Crimson Tide jumped out to a 10 point lead late in the first half. The lead didn’t hold though, as Norfolk won the second half and overtime periods to end Alabama’s season in front of the home crowd.

With the loss, Alabama ended the season with an 18-16 record on the season.
