TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — There was no change atop the rankings by the College Football Playoff Committee, which had the University of Alabama at No. 1 ahead of Oregon, Florida State and Mississippi State for the fourt semifinal spots.

If the rankings don’t change over the next two weeks Alabama would be the home team in a rematch against Mississippi State in the Sugar Bowl, with undefeated Florida State taking on Oregon in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.

The championship game will be played in Arlington, Texas on Jan. 12.

Alabama hosts No. 15 Auburn on Saturday (7:45 p.m. ET, ESPN) and with a win advances to play in the SEC Championship Game against either No. 9 Georgia or No. 17 Missouri.

With other teams from the Southeastern Conference’s Western Division dropping in the rankings, including Ole Miss falling the most from No. 8 to No. 19 and LSU no longer in the Top 25, the big question appears to be if Mississippi State can hold on to fourth – assuming everyone wins out.

Ohio State could play in a conference championship game, but Baylor and TCU don’t play in a conference with a championship.
