Coming off a rough rookie season with the New England Patriots, former Alabama DB Cyrus Jones was looking forward to having a chance to rebound in 2017.

However, during the Pats’ preseason game on Thursday night, Jones ended up tearing his ACL and meniscus and will instead miss the entire season.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported the news on Friday morning via Twitter:

Jones made two tackles in New England’s 40-38 loss to the New York Giants before leaving with the knee injury.

Jones played some cornerback and also saw time as a returner for the Patriots last year, but struggled mightily at times.

His injury continues a rough preseason for the defending Super Bowl champions, as star WR Julian Edelman tore his ACL a couple of weeks ago.
