It would appear Alabama and Georgia have something new to fight about away from their battles on the gridiron and in high school recruiting.

The right to claim the title of Running Back U may soon be up for debate, depending on who you ask in the coming weeks and months. That’s because the Crimson Tide are likely to produce the top two running back prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft, according to ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.

During a teleconference call on Tuesday, Kiper said he believes Josh Jacobs and Damien Harris will be the two running backs taken in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft, according to Charlie Potter of 247Sports. The hype for Jacobs continues to grow this offseason with many comparing the Crimson Tide running back to New Orleans sensation and former Tennessee Vol Alvin Kamara. If that’s how NFL teams really view Jacobs, he’s likely a lock to be selected in the first round of the draft.

Meanwhile, Harris produced for Alabama for four years and fits the mold of what every NFL team covets in a running back. He can get the tough yards up the middle, he has the speed to break big runs, he can catch the ball out of the backfield and he excels in pass protection. While he may not be as flashy as Jacobs, Harris has been the more consistent player in college.

While Georgia may have owned the 2018 NFL Draft when it comes to running backs with Sony Michel going in Round 1 and Nick Chubb going in Round 2, there’s a good chance Alabama can match that accomplishment in the coming weeks when the 2019 NFL Draft arrives in Nashville.
