The Seattle Seahawks faced the classic draft dilemma Thursday night with their first selection in the 2016 draft at No. 31 overall.

GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll both liked two players in that slot, Texas A&M offensive lineman Germain Ifedi and Alabama defensive lineman Jarran Reed. The ‘Hawks ultimately pulled the trigger on the offensive side of the ball by selecting Ifedi, yet managed to assist the defense and complete the draft coup by landing Reed at No. 49.

“Didn’t see (Reed) making it that long,” Carroll said to reporters after his selection — according to Pro Football Talk.

“Clearly the best run defender in this draft,” Schneider said of Reed following his selection Friday night.

To ensure they landed the duo, the Seahawks had to trade up from No. 56 to No. 49. However, considering they nearly selected Reed at the tail end of the first round, the price must have seemed well worth it to grab one of the best defensive linemen in the draft.

After going against one another in head-to-head competition the last three years in the SEC West, Ifedi and Reed will now have the opportunity to go clash every day in practice at the NFL level.
