Everyone in the football world knows Trent Richardson’s story.

From the No. 3 overall pick to bombing out of the NFL in public fashion, Richardson, 28, is attempting to make a comeback with the AAF’s Birmingham Iron.

During his five-year NFL career, Richardson played with the Browns, Colts, Raiders and Ravens. He then played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL before signing with the Iron.

Through two games, Richardson has scored three TDs and has helped his team start 2-0. His numbers aren’t fantastic (only 99 rushing yards), but he’s a big reason his team is still undefeated.

Recently, NFL.com’s Herbie Teope asked Richardson, who now has three children, the one thing he’d tell his younger self about handling life as a professional athlete, and his answer was quite thoughtful.

“Learn how to say no early,” Richardson said. “Learn how to say no and make sure that you know that you have your first business already, and it’s yourself.

“One thing I have realized is that you are your own CEO. However you product yourself on the field, off the field, it’s up to you because life is much bigger than football. What is life without football? One thing I had to realize without football is that it’s much more than the game.”
