Three Spartans were only 30 days removed from the biggest beatdown in their time at Michigan State before they played in the Senior Bowl in Alabama’s backyard.

So, AL.com’s Michael Casagrande had to bring it up to receiver Aaron Burbridge, offensive lineman Jack Allen and defensive lineman Lawrence Thomas to ask what the heck happened.

“Oh definitely surprised me,” Burbridge told AL.com. “But I have to tip my hat to the Alabama guys. They came out to play.”

They came out to dominate. Alabama won the game 38-0, dealing Michigan State just its second shutout defeat since losing 14-0 to Michigan back in 2000.

Needless to say, the players were miffed by the loss. Allen told Casagrande that the team thought they could get things going in the second half after only entering the break down 10-0. Meanhwhile, Thomas felt the same way, but the Tide’s offensive game plan surprised the Spartans.

“That’s what we exercised that a lot that week, stopping the run,” Thomas said. “We thought they were going to run with (running back Derrick Henry) more, but they came out with a different game plan.”

Alabama quarterback Jake Coker completed 25 of 30 passes for 286 yards and 2 touchdowns, one of which was a 50-yard comb to receiver Calvin Ridley.

The players had plenty more to say, including some high praise for Henry and Alabama’s defensive backs. You can check out the full article here.
