Time is running low for Arkansas to name its starting offensive line heading into the Sept. 3 season opener against Louisiana Tech.

With the days until game week approaching single digits, head coach Bret Bielema, offensive coordinator Dan Enos and offensive line coach Kurt Anderson continue to shuffle players in and out of the lineup in fall camp.

While senior Dan Skipper, at left tackle, and sophomore Hjalte Froholdt, at left guard, appear to have their positions locked down, last season’s starting right guard junior Frank Ragnow, Texas graduate transfer Jake Raulerson, sophomore Zach Rogers and redshirt freshman Jalen Merrick and Colton Jackson all continue to battle for a spot on the starting line.

Wednesday, both Bielema and Enos gave hope that a decision on the starting five could soon be coming in Fayetteville.

“We’re taking a day to look at certain guys,” Bielema said during his media availability. “I want to get to a point probably by next Tuesday, maybe 10 days out from our game, where we feel good about where we’re at with the top five and go and let the other guys serve as the second unit or sub in, in certain packages.”

The Razorbacks’ offensive line coach appeared to echo those sentiments during his availability, immediately after Bielema’s.

“I think at the end of the day, this’ll make us better,” Enos said. “As you go through every season, there’s mixing and matching that goes on. It’s good for guys to know multiple positions and guys being comfortable, having played and practiced on the right or the left side in case they’re called on at some point in the year.”

“Here by the end of the week, we have to figure out who the five are going and start establishing some continuity and get those guys ready for Louisiana Tech.”

Regardless of the five who ultimately earn a starting spot — at this point it looks like Skipper, Froholdt, Ragnow, Rogers and Raulerson — the camp battle should position Arkansas to have an offensive line full of battle tested players ready to be called upon at a moment’s notice should an injury occur.
