The Arkansas Razorbacks figured a JUCO receiver from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College would make an impact this fall, but they thought it would be Brandon Martin, who was the No. 1 JUCO receiver in the 2017 class.

However, as the summer has progressed, his former (and now current) teammate, Jonathan Nance, may have worked his way ahead on the depth chart.

According to WholeHogSports.com, Nance, who was the No. 18 JUCO receiver in this year’s class, has earned the trust of QB Austin Allen:

“He’s just a good football player,” Allen said. “He understands coverages, he understands leverages. That’s kind of like a Drew Morgan-type deal where he understands (if) the guy is heavy inside, I’m going to jab this way, go out. He can get open against any type of coverage and when he gets the ball in his hands, he’s pretty special.”

Considering Morgan was the Razorbacks’ leading receiver in 2016, catching 65 passes, that’s high praise for Nance. Allen went on to say that he’d feel comfortable throwing to Nance in most situations:

“He’s got burst to him, where one-on-one (coverage), I’m kind of looking toward his way,” Allen said. ”He’s gained my trust.”

The Razorbacks open the regular season on Thursday, Aug. 31, against Florida A&M in Little Rock. It’ll be interesting to see how many times Allen looks Nance’s way in that game.
