Not only did Arkansas’ 49-28 victory against Texas Tech open some eyes within the SEC, but it appears it also cost someone a job.

In lieu of his defense surrendering 438 rushing yards and seven touchdowns against Arkansas, Texas Tech has fired their defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt, according to a report from Pete Roussel of CoachingSearch.com.

Based off of the defense’s performance since Wallerstedt arrived last season, the news doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. The Red Raiders allowed 418.7 ypg and 30.5 ppg a season ago. They got off to another slow start again this season, giving up 430.7 ypg (ninth in Big 12) and 36.7 ppg (107th nationally).

No official word yet on how Jay Niemann, Northern Illinois defensive coordinator, is taking the news of Wallerstedt’s firing.

Arkansas and Northern Illinois kick off at 7 p.m. this Saturday.
