Ty Storey lost out on the backup quarterback competition in Fayetteville during the previous offseason to Cole Kelley but with the coaching turnover this offseason and the graduation of Austin Allen, both players are back to ground zero in the starting QB race under Chad Morris and his offensive staff.

With both players forced to learn an entirely new system, Storey admits to feeling more confident this time around thanks to the additional work he’s put in this offseason. During his most recent media availability on Thursday, Storey was asked about what he needed to improve on this offseason.

“I know getting the ball out quick, which that comes with learning the offense and knowing where to go and stuff like that,” Storey answered in a video posted on YouTube by Pig Trail Nation.

According to Storey, his progression when it comes to getting the ball out quicker came in part to the coaching of former Oklahoma State and New England Patriot quarterback Zac Robinson. Following his playing career, Robinson began teaching the finer points of the position to young quarterbacks.

“I’ve gotten in a lot of work with several coaches,” Story said. “I’ve been going out to Dallas, a guy named Zac Robinson has really been helping me a lot. He’s given me some drills to work through and Coach Craddock is awesome, he’s been helping me so much. I’m really appreciative of those guys and everything they’ve done for me.”

Now that he’s going thru another offseason competition, Storey believes the work he’s put in this time around will help him. Here’s what the Arkansas QB had to say when asked if the work put in adds confidence to his game.

“It does, I think that’s the main thing. Being able to whip it out there and throw it,” Storey continued. “I know in high school I wasn’t really worried about any kind of motions, we were just out there playing football. To a certain point, that’s what you still have to do but in the offseason, it’s cool to be able to go back and try and do the technical things that you need to do to get a little bit better.”

While he may have finished as a runner-up to Kelley the previous offseason, don’t discount Storey from winning this time around. Both QBs have potential but it remains to be seen which player best suits what Morris wants from his first starting Razorback signal caller.
