Four-star wide receiver Brandon Martin raised eyebrows when he decommitted from Auburn on July 6.

Turns out, the Tigers’ coaching staff still covets him.

Speaking to AL.com on Saturday, Martin said Auburn coaches remain in touch and hope to secure his services.

“They still recruiting me hard,” Martin told AL.com. “They just told me to take my time; I’m still their No. 1 guy they want to take.”

247Sports ranks Martin, who’s 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, as the country’s top Juco wide receiver. He signed with LSU in February 2015, but he attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College last season. He committed to Auburn on July 1, but he cited the need to focus on football and school work when he announced his decommitment.

Martin told AL.com that Auburn coaches seem to be understanding of his choice to decommit. As the article states, “Martin said that the coaching staff was not angry at his decision and was actually ‘cool about it.'”

It makes sense that Auburn’s staff would show flexibility in this process. Martin has kept the Tigers in the picture, and he’ll have three more years of eligibility at wherever he plays in 2017. Auburn coaches have done the smart thing here.

Martin’s story will be worth following in the coming year.
