Heading into a crucial summer in the fourth year of the Gus Malzahn era, the last thing Auburn needed was for four contributors to get arrested but unfortunately that’s exactly what happened in early May when defensive end Byron Cowart, cornerback Carlton Davis, receiver Ryan Davis and defensive back Jeremiah Dinson were charged with marijuana possession.

Since that time, Malzahn has been vague regarding the potential disciple for the players – although one Auburn staffer was willing to detail the possible discipline for the four sophomores. Without getting into too much detail, new receivers coach Kodi Burns revealed that their punishments have been decided, prior to their July 21 court date stemming from the May 2 arrests.

“We’ve already addressed everything and everything is going to be handled appropriately,” Burns told SEC Country. “We know exactly what happened and that’s already been fixed.”

Without speculating too much, it would appear as long as no other charges are filed or incidents occur between with these players before the season begins, everyone involved is well-aware of any and all suspensions or punishment that will be handed down for the four players.

Considering Malzahn enters the season already on shaky ground on the Plains and the defending ACC Champion Clemson Tigers travel to Auburn Week 1, will those two factors play any factor into the length of any punishments? That will be something to keep an eye as we march closer to the season kickoff.
