Cam Newton has been named Auburn’s honorary captain for this Saturday’s Iron Bowl.

Newton will join the Tigers’ captains at midfield for the coin toss before the game.

Auburn (6-5) will face archrival Alabama (10-1) at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday. The game will be shown on CBS.

Newton won the Heisman Trophy and led Auburn to the national championship in 2010. That year, he passed for 2,854 yards and 30 touchdowns, and also rushed for 1,473 yards and 20 touchdowns.

He was the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, and has been the team’s starting quarterback ever since. This season, he has led the Panthers to a 10-0 start.
