Last season didn’t end the way Auburn QB Sean White would have liked, as the starter broke his right arm during a loss to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.

This offseason, the Tigers landed Baylor transfer QB Jarrett Stidham to the quarterback mix, so now White could be without a job come fall.

However, the junior isn’t giving up his starting position without a fight. According to the Ledger-Enquirer, White is showing his toughness by competing for the quarterback job with a plate in his recovering arm:

“I never got a cast,” White said. “I got a plate in there, so that was like a cast. I just wore a split or whatever you call it, but a couple of weeks ago I got it off. It’s much better without it.”

White hasn’t been cleared for full contact yet, so he has had to sit out some portions of spring practice, but he’s still doing quite a bit for the Tigers:

“I can do everything except for the team stuff because they’re afraid it will get banged by accident or something like that,” White said. “I can throw as much as I want pretty much. I’ve been getting 7-on-7’s and 1-on-1’s and everything that basically doesn’t involve scrimmaging.”

Though Stidham is the favorite to land the starting job, the Auburn coaching staff has said it won’t name an official starter until White has returned to full strength. If he continues to show toughness and leadership, it might be hard to keep the junior on the sidelines this fall.
